STAFF REPRESENTATIVES
Staff Representatives are key supports to members in the successful operation of the PGDTA. Staff Reps have the duty to represent their members in any employment related matter - and they have authority, recognized in labour law to support them in their efforts. The role of the Staff Representative as the voice of his/her staff is crucial to the effective operation of the PGDTA. The Staff Representative is the critical two-way communicator between individual teachers and their collective voice - the PGDTA. STAFF REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES The general duties of the Staff Representative are: * to attend SRA meetings * to carry concerns from the staff for discussion and /or action * to convene meetings of the staff to ensure PGDTA and BCTF business is carried out * to ensure information from the PGDTA and BCTF is made available to the staff * to serve as the initial advocate for staff members regarding (i) services and benefits, (ii) contractual rights (iii) due process is followed, (iv) grievance procedure, (v) PGDTA and BCTF policy. Staff Representatives are provided training each year so they can effectively advocate for the members of their staff. |
